Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer has died. The Harvard-trained psychiatrist and best-selling author was 68.
In a heartbreaking letter to his fans, published on June 8, the conservative commentator revealed he had lost his battle with cancer and had only weeks to live.
“Recent tests have revealed that the cancer has returned,” he wrote. “There was no sign of it as recently as a month ago, which means it is aggressive and spreading rapidly. My doctors tell me their best estimate is that I have only a few weeks left to live.”
“This is the final verdict,” Krauthammer concluded. “My fight is over.”
Reaction from friends and colleagues poured in after the news broke.
Fox News Channel Sr. Political Analyst Britt Hume called it, “terribly sad news” while Meghan McCain tweeted she was “gutted” by the news:
“The greatest political commentator of my generation - a true conservative icon. I will miss him and his commentary terribly,” she tweeted. "Sending the entire Krauthammer family my strength and prayers.”
