O.J. Simpson swallowed his pride and reached out to the family of his best friend-turned-enemy Tom Scotto after his sudden death, RadarOnline.com can exclusively report.
The disgraced NFL player contacted the loved ones to “express his condolences” — and to excuse himself from the funeral, Scotto’s first wife, Maria, told RadarOnline.com.
“I don’t think O.J. is going to be able to make the funeral because of his parole issues,” she said of the accused killer, who was released from prison on October 1 after serving nine years on armed robbery charges.
When asked if Simpson was allowed to attend the weekend services, the soft-spoken Maria told RadarOnline.com, “Yes, of course he is welcome.”
As RadarOnline.com first reported, Simpson's confidante and longtime defender died unexpectedly Wednesday at a Florida hospital after suffering a respiratory ailment. He was 56.
The ever-loyal Scotto offered to let Simpson, 70, live in his upscale Naples home after the accused killer’s release from prison.
But they had a huge falling out after it emerged Simpson had sex with Scotto’s second wife before shamelessly serving as best man a their 2007 wedding.
The scandal led to a divorce, and now his second wife lives in Brazil their daughter.
“Tom Scotto died of the broken heart because O.J. slept with the man’s wife!” a source close to the two men told RadarOnline.com.
A wake is being held for Scotto Saturday at the Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens in Naples followed by a burial on Sunday.
