Leah Remini Enters Therapy After Escape From Scientology

Leah Remini has revealed in a new interview that she turned to therapy after her escape from Scientology. But the star claims the church has left her so paranoid, she can't fully open up!

The former King of Queens actress became an anti-Scientology crusader after fleeing the Church about five years ago.

Remini has famously exposed the Church's alleged misdeeds in a memoir and on her A&E TV show Scientology and the Aftermath— charges that the religion has adamantly denied.

In a new interview on journalist Tony Ortega's website, The Underground Bunker, Remini has confided that leaving Scientology was emotionally wrenching.

"It's a healing process that could take forever," she sighed in the Chris Shelton "Sensibly Speaking" podcast.

"I've noticed that not a lot of Scientologists don't really want to receive help after something like this. I'm one of the rare people that are in therapy," Remini said.

"I've noticed even when talking to my therapist there are certain things that I haven't revealed to her and I'm very kind of protective still because I'm like, 'You're going to use this against me.' I still have that."

Remini said her therapist told her she was a victim but Scientologists "don't allow you to be a victim, even if something terrible happens to you. If you were raped, or molested, or abused mentally, physically in any way, if you get hit by a car, it will be your fault. They will say you did something to have that happen to you."

The Church has denied Remini's claims.

In 2013, Remini quit the religion and her husband Angelo Pagán, daughter Sofia, and mother Vicki left with her.

The Church of Scientology has denied all of Remini's criticisms and has slammed her as an actress trying to revive her flagging career.

In the past, the Church has stated that Remini "needs to move on with her life instead of pathetically exploiting her former religion, her former friends and other celebrities for money and attention to appear relevant again."

Scientology also told PEOPLE in a statement, "It is Remini who is the attacker. Her whole anti-Scientology shtick was scripted and choreographed by her, casting herself in her drama as the 'victim' so she could cash in on her false narrative while savaging her friends and those who helped her most of her life."
