RadarOnline.com has confirmed that actor John Heard, best known for playing the father in Home Alone, has died.
The Medical Examiner's office in Palo Alto, California, told RadarOnline.com, "John Heard, age 71, a resident of Studio City, California, died in Palo Alto." The official said he was not at liberty to reveal any other details at this time.
Palo Alto police said, "We don't have any information."
While the medical examiner's spokesman reported him as 71 when he died, other reports said Heard was 72.
According to another report, as Page Six noted, Heard's death was shocking as he was discovered dead in a hotel by the maid service, family sources said.
Police were allegedly called to the hotel for a report of a medical emergency, but Heard was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to reports, the coroner is investigating, and the cause of Heard's death is not known at this time.
However, his rep has said that Heard had "minor back surgery" Wednesday at Stanford Medical Center, and he had checked into at a nearby hotel while he recovered.
