Kate Upton's engagement bliss has been overshadowed by a devastating family death. RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned the model's cousin was involved in a fiery car crash that some suspect might be suicide!
Upton's millionaire businessman cousin, Aubrey McClendon, was indicted on March 1st for conspiracy to rig bids on natural gas and oil leases in Oklahoma.
Only one day later, McClendon was involved in a fatal accident when he crashed into a concrete overpass wall in Oklahoma City.
"Kate is heartbroken," a source close to the model told Radar. "He was clearly having legal trouble, but nobody foresaw him doing what actually happened. He had vowed that he was going to fight the charges."
McClendon, 56, drove his car into the overpass at a speed of 78 miles per hour.
According to police, he wasn't wearing a seatbelt and had "plenty of opportunity… to correct and get back on the roadway and that didn't occur."
McClendon was a former CEO of the Fortune 500 company Chesapeake Energy Corp. and was a part-owner of the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team.
He earned $112 million in 2008, which made him the highest-paid CEO in America that year.
Upton, who is engaged to baseball player Justin Verlander, has yet to publicly comment on the family tragedy.
Story developing.
