After going off the grid following his father David Bowie's untimely death, son Duncan Jones returned to Twitter to share a heartfelt letter from British Palliative care doctor, Dr. Mark Taubert.

The note, originally posted by Marie Curie cancer charity, thanked Bowie for leaving his legacy behind and helping future cancer patients embrace their future with courage, as he did.

"I had a recent discussion with a hospital patient, facing the end of her life," Taubert's letter read. "We discussed your death and your music, and it got us talking about numerous weighty subjects, that are not always straightforward to discuss with someone facing their own demise. In fact, your story became a way for us to communicate very openly about death, something many doctors and nurses struggle to introduce as a topic of conversation."

"Thank you for 'Lazarus' and Blackstar," Taubert added of Bowie's final album, released two days before his passing. "I am a palliative care doctor, and what you have done in the time surrounding your death has had a profound effect on me and many people I work with."

Jones, Bowie's 44-year-old film director son with ex-wife Angie, retweeted the message as tribute to his father.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, the legendary music icon died of liver cancer. Bowie's passing was first revealed on his social media pages last Sunday night, following the 2016 Golden Globe Awards.

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer," the official statement read, shared by Bowie's supermodel wife Iman. "While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."
