Did Lamar Odom's BFF Jamie Sangouthai have to die? RadarOnline.com has learned the former NBA star originally had plans to hang out with his childhood buddy on the night Sangouthai reportedly overdosed — but ditched him to party in Las Vegas.

According to an insider, "Lamar had planned on hanging out with Jamie over the weekend, but was invited to go to Vegas at the last minute. Jamie didn't want to go, so Lamar went without him. Never in his wildest dreams did Lamar think that would be the last time he would ever see his best friend."

Odom's short flight from Las Vegas to Los Angeles Monday was a high flying nightmare.

According to an eyewitness on the flight, Khloe Kardashian's estranged husband was in first class taking advantage of the free alcohol as he flew home following Sangouthai's death.

"Lamar had two shots of vodka and he told the flight attendant 'Vodka and Xanax and I should wake up there,'" an eyewitness previously told Radar. "And he was talking on the phone and told that person that he took Xanax and took two shots."
