Anna Wintour might have had an inkling of how controversy creates cash when she put Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on the cover of April's issue, as it seems the critics who said they'd cancel their subscription to the fashion mainstay has been offset by those who made sure to pick up a copy for posterity, if nothing else.
The NY Post Tuesday, quoting media insiders, said that the much-ballyhooed edition is on pace to move 300,000 to 400,000 copies, numbers only matched by cultural icons like Beyoncé (whose issue sold more than 355,000) and First Lady Michelle Obama. (whose issue sold just south of 300,000).
A magazine spokesperson said the organization "never comments on sales figures," but in light of this news, you have to think Wintour and Co. are popping open the Cristal in celebration of the worthy gamble.
