Brooke Mueller Placed On Involuntary Psychiatric Hold -- Secret Reason Why She Lost Charlie Sheen's Twins Revealed

The ex-wife of Charlie Sheen, Brooke Mueller, was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold at the UCLA Medical Center in the days before child protective services took away their twins, RadarOnline.com can exclusively reveal.
Mueller, 35, was 5150'd under the Californian Welfare Institutions Code -- the same evaluation that Britney Spears went under in 2008 -- that allows for a qualified peace officer or clinician to involuntarily confine someone because it's deemed they have a mental disorder that makes them a danger to themselves and/or others.
"Brooke was taken to the medical center on Wednesday night, after she was deemed to be a threat to herself and to others," a source close to the Mueller family confirmed to RadarOnline.com.
"She had been using drugs for days and was not in her right mind. It was a very sad, sad situation.
"Once Brooke was admitted, her doctors notified the Department of Children and Family Services and action was taken by the agency immediately to get her children legally out of her care."
Mueller is still being held at the hospital, the source said.
As RadarOnline.com was first to report, the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services took away Mueller and Sheen's four-year-old twins, Bob and Max, late on Thursday, because of fears their mother's drug use could endanger them.
A source said Mueller, a socialite and occasional actress, has since refused to check into rehab despite the urging of friends.

"Brooke is completely in denial about how bad her addiction is to crystal meth. Even after losing Bob and Max, she is still refusing to go back to rehab," an insider told RadarOnline.com.
"The only chance Brooke has of even having visitation with the boys is if she is in a treatment program.
"The longer Brooke goes without getting treatment, the more it hurts her chances of getting the boys back."
Added another source: "Brooke is in a very, very bad place right now. She is absolutely despondent that she lost the boys. Maybe this will finally make her realize that she needs to get help."
Speaking to RadarOnline.com earlier Friday, Mueller's mother, Moira Fiore insisted: "Everything is fine, everything is the way it is supposed to be right now… Brooke is fine, everybody will be fine."
Sheen's second wife, Denise Richards, has taken over temporary care for the boys.
A rep for Mueller had "no comment."
