A nine-year-old girl identified only as "Dafne," has reportedly given birth in the Mexican state of Jalisco, RadarOnline.com is reporting.

According to ABC News, authorities are currently looking for the baby's father, a 17-year-old whom Dafne's mother says left town.

"We are looking for the young man to get his story because she does not understand what has happened," Jorge Villasenor with the Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office told Terra Noticias.

"This is a rape or child sex abuse case."

The young girl allegedly told authorities the teenager was her boyfriend but is unwilling to tell them any more information, said Lino Ginzalez Corona, a spokesperson at the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office.

“Due to her young age, we don’t know if she is being entirely truthful,” said Corona.

According to Corona, the young man wanted Dafne to move in with him and when she refused he left town.

Dafne gave birth to a baby girl, weighing 5.7 pounds, on January 27 in Zoquipan Hospital in Zapopan, according to hospital officials.

“Due to her young age and to the fact that her body was not ready to give birth,” Dr. Enrique Rabago, director of Zoquipan Hospital, at a press conference Wednesday, "the medical team decided a C-Section was the best option."

Rabago said both Dafne and her daughter were released from the hospital.
