She’s Canada’s newest musical sensation, and now she’s making a splash in the states -- with a little help from her country’s prodigal superstar son.
Her name is Carly Rae Jespen, and she appears on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Friday to talk about how her career has been given a bump thanks to another Canadian musician you might have heard of: Justin Bieber.
“I had been signed in Canada to 604 records,” said Jespen, who has more than 300,000 Twitter followers. “I had never branched outside of Canada and had no idea how to do that and then one miraculous day Justin called.”
Ellen joked, “You know how that happens: sometimes Justin just calls. That’s really exciting ... it just changed your life.
“It did,” said Jespen, 26. “At the time, I was touring in Canada in a soccer mom van with my band, and it seemed to be good to be true.”
Ellen replied, “And things are going to change from here on out. This is going to be a huge debut.”

In her American television debut, Jepsen performs her song Call Me Maybe, which currently sits in iTunes top 10.
Also on Ellen’s show Friday, the Baby singer performs his new single “Boyfriend.”
Fun fact: Like Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, Jepsen made a name for herself on Idol ... Canadian Idol, that is! She finished third during the show’s 2007 competition.
