Trophies also went to Shailene Woodley and Christopher Plummer for their supporting parts in The Descendants and Beginners.
When she took the stage to accept her award Williams joked about how she wore “her own clothes” and “cut her own hair” when she came to the ceremony for the first time 10 years ago.
However she looked picture perfect on the night dressed in a Louis Vuitton ensemble and Fendi shoes.
