Man Born With No Ears Wows On American Idol

Ramiro Garcia, a Texas man born with no ears, is the latest contestant to impress the judges on American Idol -- both for his vocal ability and for his courage.
“I wasn’t born normal,” Garcia said on the show Thursday night, describing the medical condition he had from birth. “I came out with no ears. Nothing on my left ear, right just an earlobe. Doctors gave my parents the worst news that I would not hear, not speak, I would be a mute.”
With his powerful rendition of Amazing Grace, the Houston faith leader earned his ticket to the Hollywood competition and wowed the judges.

“I like what I’m hearing,” Steven Tyler told him. “You’re a power of example.”
Jennifer Lopez told the aspiring star that they were “taking a leap of faith with you today,” and Randy Jackson said he liked that he had been an underdog.
Garcia’s father was emotional while waiting for his son’s audition. “I remember when the doctors say he no speak,” he said. “Guess what? I’m happy now.”
American Idol airs on Fox Wednesday and Thursday nights.
