Reality TV star Bethenny Frankel is answering her critics chastising for her rapid 30-pound weight loss in less than one month following the birth of her daughter last year.
In an exclusive new interview with RadarOnline.com, Frankel candidly responds to the criticism that was directed at her and the misconceptions of her diet.
"I'm not supposed to keep my baby weight on because I'm supposed to make people feel better, and I'm not supposed to lose it because I'm supposed to show anybody how it's done. I did what I do," the Bethenny Ever After star told RadarOnline.com while promoting the second season of her popular Bravo show.
The new mom reportedly lost 30-pounds just three weeks after delivering baby Bryn in May 2010, and the speedy pregnancy weight loss drew much negative feedback. But Bethenny said that rather than an unrealistic expectation for women, the message is a more positive one.
"On my tour I had between 1000-1800 women in a room and I said 'here's the deal on the international weight loss scandal that I had of mine. How many of you have treated pregnancy like a complete free-for-all binge? Not just eating what you want, but going off the rails saying 'this is your only time to do this' and half the room raised their hands.
"Anybody who's a mom knows that gaining 35 pounds by the time you're giving birth five weeks early isn't really gaining too little. And everyone who's had a C-section knows they don't let you eat for days until you pass gas and you're in the hospital for six days and there I lost weight and then I went back to normal," she said with a laugh.
Bethenny sets the record straight on misconceptions that she drastically dieted.
"I didn't go on a crash diet, which is what most people do when they have a baby. It doesn't work...they beat themselves up...they start the process all over agai...they start eating more, and now they're six months in and they're in a bad place.
"I was just like healthy before, during and after and I think it's a great message to say to people you don't have to get all wound up about it, you don't have to binge while you're pregnant and you don't have to crash diet when you're not."
Season 2 of Bethenny Ever After premieres on February 28 at 10 pm on Bravo.
