Anne Hathaway: Con Artist Ex Gave Me Trust Issues

While Anne Hathaway has moved on from her relationship with Raffaello Follieri, who is currently in prison, the actress admits the experience left her with “lingering trust issues.”
In 2008, Follieri was sentenced to over four years in prison after he swindled millions of dollars from investors who believed he had ties to the Vatican and could thus buy church-owned property at a cheaper price. “It takes a minute for me to let my guard down,” Hathaway told Vogue. “But once I do and I get to know someone, I’m very open, very trusting. Some might say too trusting, because considering the amount of money that can be made from selling gossip, I could be very easily taken advantage of.”
During her ordeal with her ex, Hathaway was filming Love and Other Drugs with Jake Gyllenhaal. Her personal life took its toll on her during production: “I was a wreck from start to finish. I think I cried every single day. I had to lean so much more heavily on everyone around me than I’m used to. I’m used to pulling my own weight. But I totally fell apart.”
