The mother of 8 returned to the ABC set Monday night to interview the final four backstage. Wearing an elegant shimmering metallic dress, Kate held the microphone for Entertainment Tonight.

While interviewing Nicole Scherzinger and dancing pro Derek Hough, she surprised the professional dancer with a cupcake for his birthday!

Ice skater Evan Lysacek said “we miss you so much.”

Then her objectivity went out the window, “You made me cry tonight,” she said, “Seriously I got chills. I literally caught myself crying. I turned to Jake (Pavelka) and said he may have just sealed the deal.”

But like a good reporter, she asked the tough questions: “Do you feel like that you are a forerunner that possibly fans will get lazy and assume that you’ll win and won’t vote?” she asked Evan.

She was really expressive -- at times she dropped her jaw, used the word “oww!” and mastered the traditional reporter nod. And since this was her first shot at reporting, her former co-stars rated her -- Derek gave her a 9 and Nicole a 10.
