Real Housewives Of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes ‘bad-boy’ NFL boyfriend Charles Grant pled no contest in Georgia Tuesday to an involuntary manslaughter charge involving Korynda Reed, RadarOnline.com can reveal.
The former New Orleans Saints defensive end – who has been romantically linked with reality star Leakes – was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay $20,000 restitution while also being placed on probation for one year.
The 31-year-old Grant, who is from Colquitt, Ga., was stabbed in the neck during the fight inside a Georgia nightclub in February 2008, which resulted in the death of 23-year-old Korynda Reed.
District Attorney Ron Smith said that Grant's longtime friend, Laquient Macklin, and Grant's cousin, Marshae Stromer, pleaded guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter and affray and paid a $1,000 fine and were put on two years' probation.
Hulking 6 ft 3 inch Grant, 31, had always claimed that he was innocent and it’s understood that controversial Leakes believed his side of the story.
A source close to the Real Housewives Of Atlanta star told RadarOnline.com: “NeNe and Charles met at a fundraiser for him and they have been involved for over a year and a half now.
“She believes that somebody is innocent until proven guilty and she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.”
It’s understood that Grant is trying to negotiate a deal with the Atlanta Falcons so that he can be closer to Leakes and his family who live in that area also.
RadarOnline.com reported how Leakes marriage to her husband of 14 years Greg has been under pressure recently following the arrest of her son Bryson after police found him in possession of marijuana.
Leakes will start in the third series of The Real Housewives Of Atlanta which is due to air late summer.
