Sultry singer Alexis Houston is hitting back over reports she had a fling with the married host of The Today Show, Matt Lauer, is reporting.

Houston’s reps have been scrambling to clarify how well the pair actually knew each other after sending out somewhat contradictory e-mails to media outlets.

As Hollyscoop was the first to report, the latest official statement reads:

"Our official statement is that the allegations regarding Ms. Houston and Mr. Lauer are false. If they have met at the Today Show, in the past, that would be the extent of their interaction. However, Ms. Houston has never had any sort of relationship with Mr Lauer and does not even recall meeting him.

But, in an earlier statement, there was a concession that they could have in fact met on the Today Show in the past.

It reads: "We appreciate your cooperation with this matter. All interviews or statements from Ms. Houston are being handled by her press agent, Nancy Hirsch and her attorney, Wayne Rooks, at Serling, Rooks, Ferrara.

"Respectfully, Alexis would really not like to gain publicity from this allegation as it goes against all she is, as a young woman in the entertainment industry.

"Any documented meetings she may have had with Mr. Lauer, have been coincidental, and/or purely of a professional nature. This is message that we would like to have disseminated.

A source familiar with both Lauer and Houston exclusively told “Their messages are really dumb because clearly Alexis and Matt knew one another even if nothing was going-on between them.

“In addition she attended several Today Show concerts and she was seen chatting with Matt several times behind the scenes.

“I don’t know why they could not just be honest about the fact that the two of them were friends – maybe something clandestine really was going on.”

According to the National Enquirer, Matt moved out of the home he shared with his wife Annette two months ago but is still very involved in their three kids’ lives.

But Lauer – who is in Cannes, France, with the Today Show – was spotted wearing his wedding ring on several segments this week.

While Matt’s mother Marilyn Gentry told that she knows nothing about any breakup.

But the true nature of the relationship between the host and Whitney Houston’s half-sister Alexis remains murky.

As well as appearing in the studios of The Today Show in March 2008, Houston was flown to Carolina and booked into the same hotel (different floors) where Lauer was staying while he attended an event.

In addition, a source tells that Lauer tried to see Houston while they were both at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver more recently.

The source added: “They definitely know each other and are friends for anybody to suggest anything else is just not true.

“It was well known by a lot of people on The Today Show that Matt was not in a happy marriage with his wife who always came across as cold and aloof at staff parties and  other social events.

“Matt is generally very popular with the cast and crew although he does have a flirty nature around women, although he is respectful at the same time too.”
