Star Trek icon George Takei appears in his full USS Enterprise costume alongside his husband Brad Altman in a new ad for the Equal Roots Coalition regarding same-sex marriage classifications on this year's census form --the first to count same-sex marriages in the U.S.

In the ad, which we have for you right here on RadarOnline.com, the Howard Stern Show personality encourages those in same-sex relationships to check off whichever box they feel best applies to their relationship – whether they consider their partner to be their “husband” or “wife” –or if they consider their better half to be their “unmarried partner.”

Since coming out of the closet in October 2005, Takei has been a noted activist for the cause, currently acting as a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign, an organization dedicated to equality.

Takei and Altman were married September 14, 2008 in Los Angeles.
