Paula Abdul is heading to Broadway.
The former American Idol judge is going to make her Broadway debut in the 2008 Tony Award winning musical, In The Heights, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.
RadarOnline.com was the first to reveal that negotiations broke down with ABC for Paula to star in a remake of the 1980s hit Star Search, and now we’ve learned she will be doing a several-week stint on the stage.
“Paula will take over for Priscilla Lopez in one of the leading roles. It’s always been Abdul’s dream to star on Broadway,” an inside source tells RadarOnline.com exclusively. “Paula has been in talks with producers for several weeks and made a special overnight trip to New York on March 17 just to see the successful Broadway show.”

High School Musical producer Kenny Ortega appears to be the one who rallied for Abdul to get some stage time. “Seems as if Ortega wants Paula involved in this project,” the insider tells RadarOnline.com. “Ortega is hot to have her choreograph the film version.”
On a side note, Abdul and Ortega both have long-time connections to the Jackson family, with Ortega choreographing Michael Jackson’s This Is It tour and Abdul having worked with Janet Jackson in her first music videos and with the Jackson family for their Victory Tour.
