Soon-to-be former Miss America, Katie Stam, capped off her final night wearing the crown with another sparkling accessory – a diamond engagement ring.
Stam’s boyfriend, Brian Irk, stunned Katie - and hundreds of onlookers – as he made the bold proposal, at the Evening of Dreams gala of the 2010 Miss America Pageant at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, last night.
As this video shows, Brian took to the stage to get down on bended knee.
‘I am obviously not going to be able to change some things,’ he told the crowd.
‘The fact that she likes Oreos and she doesn’t like to work out, however, there is one thing that I can change tonight,’ he added, to screams both on and off stage.
Anticipating the proposal, a shocked and stunning Katie, dressed in a long back dress, put her hands on her face and cried, before nodding her head.
The couple has been together for more than four years.
The engagement set off a huge weekend in Sin City, where tonight, a group of 53 beauty queens will attempt to woo a panel of judges in hopes of winning the Miss America 2010 crown.
The winner, crowned by Katie, gets a $50,000 scholarship and embarks on a yearlong run with the title to represent the organization and raise awareness for her chosen platform.
The 89-year-old pageant will be televised live on cable network TLC and is hosted by actor and "Extra" host Mario Lopez.
The panel of judges will be headlined by conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.
