Michael Shaun Corby knows hair. The Global Creative Director for Alterna, who has been regarded as a haircare guru for over 18 years, training stylists at celeb filled salons such as Umberto’s and Jose Eber in Beverly Hills gave us the inside scoop on tousled trends for 2010.
1. 2010 will focus on the classic bob. Many celebrities are cutting their signature long hair and going for this edgy style. Christina Aguilera’s chin-length blunt bob is sophisticated and stylish. Gwyneth Paltrow’s bob is playful and fun, with its longer layers in the front. Jennifer Hudson’s choppy short cut brings out her gorgeous features.
2. While shorter hair will be popular, the pixie is on its way out and won’t be as trendy in 2010. Instead, we will see celebrities growing out their pixie cuts in favor of a more sculpted bob – adding to the popularity of the classic bob mentioned above.
3. We will see a change on the red carpet too -- more chignons and a variety of updos, and layered cuts, rather than the traditional long waves. We will also see a rise in popularity of high-end hair accessories. Jeweled barrettes, clips and hair pins will a big trend in 2010. We’ve seen this trend on the runways and on the set of Gossip Girl and will be seeing it more and more throughout the year.
4. We will also see a big shift in hair color in 2010. This upcoming year, brunette’s will be selecting cooler base colors allowing for lighter highlights to really show through in a more natural, subtle way like Fergie’s new style; blondes such as Drew Barrymore will truly be blonde in 2010 with nearly platinum shades becoming very popular; redheads will be true to their roots and will be selecting deep red tones with only a few cool blonde highlights dispersed throughout the head.
