We’re predicting it here first -- the 82nd Academy Awards will go down in history! First, the Best Picture category is now opened up to ten nominees. That’s a whole lotta movies to get in before the show airs on Sunday, March 7th, 2010. But that’s not what we’re most excited about. We can’t wait to watch the hosts in action. Yes, that’s plural -- as in two hosts to make the night even more historic.

We couldn’t be more excited that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin have both been tapped to co-host the big night. The two currently compete for the affections of Meryl Streep in It’s Complicated and it looks like their on-screen rivalry is heading to the Oscar podium! Steve commented on the honor by saying, “I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin.” While Alec said, “I don’t play the banjo but I’m thrilled to be hosting the Oscars – it’s the opportunity of a lifetime” (in case you weren’t aware, Steve actually plays the banjo in the bluegrass band Steep Canyon Rangers).

So, what kind of Oscar-hosting qualifications do these funny men possess? Well, as you know, Alec is a two-time Emmy award winner for his role as Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock while Steve was nominated for his guest appearance on the NBC show.

Steve has hosted the Oscars twice before (he did the gig solo for the 73rd and 75th editions) while Alec has never hosted but was nominated for an Oscar in 2003 for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Cooler.

But these men do officially have the word “host” on their resumes. They’ve each hosted Saturday Night Live an inordinate amount of times -- leading to another friendly feud. See, Steve holds the record for hosting with 15 shows while Alec is just one gig short with 14 times under his belt. Alec needs to start buttering up Lorne Michaels so they can at least be tied!

Well, one thing is certain -- we can’t wait to see these funny men go head to head on the Oscar stage! Is Alec aware that Steve earned an Emmy nomination for hosting the 73rd Academy Awards in 2001? That just means the pressure is on and we can’t wait to see these funny men go head to head!
