Precious Scores Big At Box Office

The graphic new drama Precious made $1.8 million at the box office this past weekend -- and while that may not seem impressive, it is.
The film opened in limit release - playing in only 18 theaters across the country. That means on average, Precious earned a staggering $100,000 per theater.
Precious -- based on the acclaimed novel Push by Sapphire -- follows the heartbreaking story of an overweight teenage girl in Harlem who suffers horrifying abuse at the hands of her parents.

The film stars newcomer Gabourey Sidibe in the title role, and features well-known names, including Mariah Carey, Mo'Nique, and Sherri Shepherd, in breathtaking supporting roles.
Precious has been getting raves from critics and has been heralded by both Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry as the must-see movie of the year.
The film opens nationwide on Friday, November 20th.
