VIDEO: Mischa Barton Blames Meltdown On Wisdom Teeth

A midsummer incident in which actress Mischa Barton was placed under an involuntarily psychiatric hold was "blown out of proportion," Barton told the ladies of The View on Friday.

Barton said, in a husky tone, that she was "overwhelmed" after a botched operation in which she had four wisdom teeth pulled left her in "excruciating pain." She said the "chronic pain" associated with her poorly-repaired mouth led to treatments including painkillers and at one point, a daily dosage of Novocain. She said that subsequent miscommunication with hospital staffers, as she was suffering from the pain, led to the psychiatric hold.

Barton carried herself with an air on confidence to the concerned panel, telling them: "I'm such a positive person."
The actress was checked into Los Angeles' Cedars Sinai Medical Center under the involuntarily psychiatric hold July 15 for medical issues; she has a history of substance abuse, having a drunk driving arrest and rehab stint under her belt in the past two years.
The Beautiful Life is slated to premiere September 16 at 9/8c on the CW.
