Beginning promptly at 3pm, the funeral service was small and private. Police and a private security team stood guard at the front entrance to the cemetery, and escorted guests- who all wore Nikes as a tribute to AM’s love of the famous sneaker- discreetly into the front hall where the funeral was held.
Among the mourners in attendance were DJ AM’s mother, Andrea Gross, girlfriend Hayley Wood and Travis Barker.
“The family wanted it kept very private,” a cemetery employee told RadarOnline.com exclusively. “He was big deal. It’s so sad that he’s gone.”
In an attempt to avoid the paparazzi, the black hearse carrying Goldstein’s coffin was backed up against the front doors of the building during the service.
Following the funeral, mourners accompanied the casket, adorned with bouqets of white flowers, to a tent covered area on the cemetery’s grassy hillside where he was buried. Dressed in a modest black pin-striped suit, Barker looked visibly upset during the burial and had to be comforted by another mourner.
Goldstein was found dead on Friday, August 28, in his NYC apartment. On Wednesday, it was reported that the he had up to 8 undigested pills ( that were believed to be the powerful painkiller OxyContin) in his stomach and a ninth one lodged in his throat. A crack pipe was also found near his body. His death came as a shock to those who reveled in his miraculous recovery following a fatal plane crash in September, 2008, in which he and Barker were the only survivors.
As RadarOnline.com reported, Goldstein did not have a will. His mother is his sole heir.
