Mischa Barton Opens Up About Her Meltdown

Admitting your problems is often the first step to recovery and Mischa Barton is ready to reveal the reasons she ended up in a hospital's psychiatric ward last month. The actress calls that period of her life "a perfect storm" that made her hit "rock bottom."

"I went through a tough spot where everything compounded on me, and it was like a perfect storm, like everything was happening to me at once," Bartol told Time Out New York. "The show, travel and then this fairly routine surgery that went wrong — it’s still just healing."

Shortly after her stint in a Los Angeles mental ward, Barton headed to New York to film A Beautiful Life. The surgery was to take out all four of her wisdom teeth.

"I've never had surgery before — it all went wrong and I had to have a second surgery and it almost delayed shooting."

Barton also admitted to bouts of depression: "I was down in the dumps about everything there for a while. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom about things and have to get the most stressed-out just to feel better again. I got completely stressed-out and couldn’t handle everything, and now I feel really in control."
