Beyonce Knowles and Britney Spears have been pop music stalwarts for years, so its no surprise the decade-dominating divas were amongst the leading nominees for this year's MTV Video Music Awards, up for nine and seven awards, respectively.
This year, however, they have a new diva has joined them in the ranks, with nine VMA nominations of her own: Lady Gaga.
The breakout music sensation has turned heads with her sex-charged style and sounds that have bolstered her album, The Fame, to platinum status smash hit singles such as Poker Face, Just Dance and LoveGame.
Lady GaGa said — in her own inimitable way -- she was honored by the nominations.
We believe in the immensity and the promise of 'showbiz' and will continue to give it mouth-to-mouth, till its vomiting return,” Lady Gaga said in a statement. “All you need is a camcorder, a flashlight, and one truly GREAT idea. Thank you MTV for being our video flagship, and for supporting this bunch of inspired kids, who love to get wasted and make art, together.”
