Horror Rules At The Weekend Box Office

The Final Destination WAS the surprise winner at movie theatres this weekend. With no major stars but lots of blood and gore, it took in an estimated $28,335,000 in ticket sales. The horror flick easily beat out last weekend's winner, Inglorious Basterds. The Brad Pitt World War II farce took in $20,041,000 in its second weekend. Third place belongs to another horror story, Halloween 2, with an estimated $17,405,000.
District 9 fell off dramatically. Its fourth place tally was $10,700,000. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was in fifth place with$8,000,000.
The remainder of the top 10 spots go to: Julie & Julia, $7,400,000; The Time Traveler's Wife, $6,745,000; Shorts, $4,870,000; Taking Woodstock (in limited release) $3,748,000; and G-Force, $2,845,000.
