Optimus Prime has met its box office match -- in an animated dinosaur.
Two of the summer's most anticipated movies from popular film franchises, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, tied for the top spot over the huge holiday weekend with projected grosses at $42.5 million each.
Though the Transformers sequel's earnings were slashed by more than half from the previous weekend, the film has still made $293.5 million in less than two weeks of release in the states. At $42.5 million, the third in the Ice Age series earned slightly less than the first two ($46, $68 million respectively) in its opening weekend.
