The younger sister of Beyonce has done a “Britney Spears’ by shaving her head so that people stop comparing her to her superstar sibling.

Solange Knowles, 23, carried out a promise she had made on her Twitter page to chop-off her former flowing locks.

She wrote on Twitter: “I wanna cut all my hair off and fade (cropped hair) phase”.

But it looks like Solange might have had second thoughts about her new-look which she debuted during a shopping trip in Los Angeles with her four-year-old son Juelz.

Because when she stepped-out on the red carpet to attend a Dita Von Teese event at an L.A. nightclub a few hours later, she was sporting a brunette wig!

Solange – who is seen as the more adventurous of the two sisters – is successful in her own right.

She has written hit songs for Destiny’s Child as well as for Beyonce while performing as a solo artist too.

And she finally broke into the music scene as a solo artist with Solo Star, an up-tempo R&B record bolstered by the Neptunes, Timbaland and a host of other super-producers.

But she admits that she has had to ‘laugh about’ constant comparisons to Beyonce to keep herself from going insane.  She said: “I get asked about Beyonce all the time but I try and make fun of it.  Sometimes, I say she's not my sister. Other times I say I've stuffed her in my suitcase and sent it to Dubai. I have to have fun with it or I'll turn into Britney - shave my head and go totally crazy.”

Solange released her debut single I Decided last year from her debut album Sol Angel and the Hadley St Dreams.
