Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin Tuesday forgave talk show host David Letterman for an off-color sex joke he told about her 14-year-old daughter, Willow.

The former vice presidential candidate did not let the Indiana funnyman -- who spent a sizable chunk of his show Monday night contritely apologizing to the Palin family -- off the hook altogether, as she said she hoped the incident would fulfill her hopes that "men who 'joke' about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls will soon evolve."

"Letterman certainly has the right to 'joke' about whatever he wants to, and thankfully we have the right to express our reaction," Palin said in a statement.
