Ryan O'Neal, in the second-part of an emotional interview with The Today Show, said he gave up all hope for his ailing lover, Farrah Fawcett, in her battle with anal cancer "weeks and weeks ago -- but she came back."
He said that as Fawcett has shown small steps of progress, he offered her a trip to Italy, which would invariably be nixed as the cancer worsened.
"I don't think we'll be making that trip," he said.
O' Neal, discussing the new documentary Farrah's Story, which chronicles the Charlie's Angels star's battle with the disease, looked devastated as he discussed the pain and anguish he is coping with as his longtime love succumbs to the deadly disease.
"It makes me mad," he said. "Why'd they have to take my girl?"
He said that sometimes when Fawcett -- who has abandoned all treatment at this stage -- drifts to sleep, he hopes her misery will come to a merciful conclusion.
