Elizabeth Edwards, the cancer-stricken wife wife of ex-presidential candidate John Edwards, told Oprah Winfrey that her marriage is on a "day-by-day" basis after a scandal exposing her husband's extramarital affairs surfaced last summer.
"Neither one of us is out the door, so I guess it's day-by-day," she told Winfrey in an interview scheduled to air Thursday. "But maybe its month-by-month." Transcripts from the interview were released Tuesday.
Edwards said that the one gift she asked of her husband before their wedding 31 years ago was that he stay faithful to her.
"It was enormously important to me," she said.
She told Winfrey the politician's mistress, videographer Rielle Hunter, seduced him outside a restaurant with the line "You are so hot."
She said that the outgoing woman may have stoked passionate flames in her supposedly straitlaced husband.
"Rielle Hunter is really different from me and really very different from him. Were basically old-fashioned people, so this was a pretty big leap for him," she said. "Maybe it's being so different is what was attractive." (Photo: WENN)
