Proving that the brooding young man can carry a project without certain singing High Schoolers, Efron can even take pride in whipping one of the years most anticipated political thrillers State of Play.
Starring Crowe, Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams, Play attracted around $14.1 million.
Meanwhile, Kristen Stewart's quirky theme park indy Adventureland is holding on, raking in $1.3 million for a total take of $14 million.
Miley Cyrus' Hannah Montana Movie dropped a severe 61% in ticket sales but boasts an overall gross of $56.1 million in two weeks.
