Who needs the ESPN ticker for up-to-the-minute coverage of your favorite athletes in the Twitter era?
Lance Armstrong, the cycling icon currently preparing for a comeback, suffered a setback in his bid when he broke his collarbone after crashing in a tune-up race in Spain.
Thankfully, he of the ubiquitous yellow bracelets kept his fans in the loop with a string of Twitter messages, listed in sequential order : "I'm alive! Broken clavicle (right). Hurts like hell for now. Surgery in a couple of days. Thanks for all the well wishes ... Sitting here with friend at his house. Glass of wine, cheese and crackers. Now going to bed. Night, y'all ... Sitting in the airport getting ready to fly home. Layover in NYC then ATX!! ... Thanks to everyone here in Spain for all the help and support."
