Clementine Ford, the daughter of Golden Globes Award-winning actress Cybill Sherperd has publicly acknowledged she is gay, telling the Advocate, “I am gay. I just wanted there not to be this big emphasis on it.”
In February, Ford revealed to Diva magazine that she had dated both men and women. When the magazine cover published the tagline “Clementine Ford comes out”, the actress said she didn’t technically come out and did not want to label herself.
“My siblings and I would bring home men and women, and as long as they were human it wasn’t a big thing,” she said. “I never want to put a label on myself- but knowing that not everyone comes from such a liberal place, when something like Prop 8 comes out, you realize it’s important to stand up and be counted.”
Ford was married to Chad Todhunter for four years and was rumored to be dating her L Word co-star Kate Moennig- a rumor she didn’t mind leaving ambiguous (“Clearly we did our jobs right if there are rumors….I hate to squash them, too. Whatever I say people are going to have their own ideas.”), In the L Word, the Showtime drama following a group of lesbian, bisexual, and transgender characters, Ford played the onscreen daughter to her real-life mother Shepherd. Her character gets involved with Moennig’s character for a brief romance (which is also interrupted when Shepherd walks in on their first rendezvous together). She has also appeared on House M.D. and Crossing Jordan.
