Stars To Duck Oscar Red Carpet

Presenters won't be walking down this red carpet. The Academy will try to keep them a surprise. The producers of the Oscars have a plan to stop the decline in ratings over the last few years. They've decided that the presenters -- most of whom remain a secret despite some leaks to the media -- should not appear on the red carpet.
Joan Rivers, who is the queen of the red carpet broadcasts, believes this is the right move.
"You want to see who are they wearing and what are they wearing," Rivers told the Associated Press. "And, if you're doing that on the red carpet, you don't necessarily have to tune into the show."
Rivers adds that pre-show coverage like hers has hurt the actual Academy Awards telecast.
"There's no question that these took away," she said. "I'm just surprised it took them that long to figure it out."
