The big winner at the 81st annual Academy Awards was of course, Slumdog Millionaire, which took home eight trophies including Best Picture and Best Director.

Backstage, director Danny Boyle said he's convinced the film festivals got the Slumdog Millionaire groundswell in gear.

"What we benefited from is the people have taken it to their hearts. People stop you in the lift; you bump into strangers who are not in the entertainment business and they say they saw your film and they grip you in a way that's a bit frightening. But, you know, obviously, the film has spoken to them, and obviously it's lovely."
