Maybe because it's his last movie (he says) or maybe it's just curiosity seekers trying to remember what he looks like without a beard and making sense.
Whichever the case, Joaquin Phoenix's now-infamous appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman gave his flick Two Lovers a very strong $13,500 per-screen average opening weekend in just 7 theaters. Of course, that pales beside the 1.3 million viewers a YouTube posting of the David Letterman video got in just 24 hours.
