Superhero fans were more than a little concerned when funnymen Seth Rogen and Stephen Chow were signed to star as The Green Hornet and his sidekick Kato in the upcoming film.
The choice of directors has calmed fears that the venerable hero of radio, TV, and comic books would be turned into a send-up.
Variety reports that Michel Gondry, who made Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind will run the show, a choice that clearly hopes to give the masked crimefighter a grim, psychological Dark Knight slant.
The film will be released June 25, 2010.
Just over 40 years ago, the TV series starring Van Williams made an international star of his sidekick, who was played by a young, unknown Bruce Lee.
