That 80's Girl

The CW has found a fun way to create a spinoff of Gossip Girl, and it won't be what viewers are expecting.

Since they didn't want to give an existing character her own show and mess with the unique interaction of the ensemble, they're setting the new series in the 1980s. It will focus on the youth of Lily van der Woodsen (played as a grownup by Kelly Rutherford) when she was Lily Rhodes and living in the San Fernando Valley when the 'Valley Girl' days were in flower. She will be forced to make the adjustment from attending a wealthy private school to going to public school.

Major locations will include Hollywood and the Sunset Strip when heavy metal headbanging ruled the nightlife.

The series does not yet have a name or airdate.
