Writer Cheo Hodari Coker -- who wrote the screenplay for the current flick Notorious, about Christopher Wallace, aka B.I.G. -- is writing the film version of rap pioneers Run-DMC.

The movie will be based on the book by Bill Adler, Tougher Than Leather.

For those who don't remember their work, Joseph "Run" Simmons, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell dominated the music charts starting in the mid 1980s with hits like "It's Tricky," "My Adidas" and "Walk This Way."

Mizell was shot and killed in his Queens studio 7 years ago.

Run-DMC -- which has not recorded since -- will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 4.
