(Photo: Splash News Online) Four years ago, the boyfriend of actress/singer Olivia Newton-John went missing and was presumed dead. The couple had been dating for 9 years when he vanished off the coast of California in June 2005. An official U.S. Coast Guard report suggested he had drowned.

However, according to Australia's The Courier-Mail, private detectives claim that former cameraman Patrick McDermott faked his own death to avoid debt and allow his son to collect on a $100,000 life insurance policy.

The investigators believe that McDermott has been hiding in Mexico and South America since disappearing from a fishing boat.

"He's alive - there's no doubt in my mind, this guy's alive," said head investigator Philip Klein.

"Patrick McDermott walked off The Freedom and Patrick McDermott's running in Mexico - that simple," Klein added. "We're close."

The 60 year-old Olivia, best-known for starring opposite John Travolta in Grease, has since married millionaire John Easterling and settled down in Florida.
