(Photo: Splash News Online) International martial arts star Jackie Chan is negotiating with Columbia Pictures to star in their remake of The Karate Kid.
The 54 year-old Chan would be taking the role of Mr. Miyagi, which was originally played by Pat Morita in the original films.
Will Smith's 10 year-old son, and The Day the Earth Stood Still actor Jaden Smith, will be starring as Mr. Miyagi's student. In addition, the film will be directed by Harald Zwart, who just finished The Pink Panther 2.

The remake will be much like the original, in which a boy is mentored by a martial arts master to learn to defend himself against some bullies. However, unlike the original, the story will take place in China, instead of America.
