(Photo: Splash News Online) In the upcoming TV documentary Saving Amy, Mitch Winehouse -- father of 25 year-old Amy -- says that his daughter has been close to dying.

"She was close to death twice," he said. Once, he tells Hello! magazine, "they didn't see her lying in bed for days in a dark room.

"We have been working a lot to get her to where she is right now," he added.

Mom Janis says Amy's husband Blake Fielder-Civil was a bad influence and her parents are not unhappy that he wants a divorce.

"I had to call Amy before she heard about it from someone else," Mitch said. "She asked me, 'Daddy, why does he want to divorce me?' I said, 'You know I don't like him, but I have to admit that your behavior with another man is not what marriage is all about.' "

Mitch was referring to the fact that Amy was seen cavorting with rugby star Josh Bowman.

Dad is currently with Amy at St. Lucia, and says, "She's looking wonderful. She loves it here and doesn't want to go back to England."

Commenting on reports that last week hotel management asked the staff not to serve her any more alcohol after she began to seriously annoy people -- and then crawled around trying to steal booze from other guests -- Mitch said that happened "before I arrived here, but she says she was just having fun, pretending to be a horse."

Uh-huh. She's just fine.
