Intense protests against Proposition 8 are taking place all over California.

The highly-controversial bill passed (but not by much) in the recent State election and banned gay marriages.

Outspoken celebrities like Drew Barrymore, Rose McGowen and Wanda Sykes have participated in organized protests.

"People are flooding the streets in Hollywood," an insider reports. "For 6 nights in a row we had mobs of people completely shutting down the roads. There are helicopters and police cars and motorcycles everywhere."

At least four people were taken into custody at the famous Hollywood and Highland intersection when they tried to cross a line of officers.

And on Sunday, more than 3,000 people met in Sacramento to protest.

However, the most controversial actions may be those taken against the Artistic Director of the California Music Theatre, Scott Eckern, who contributed $1000 in support of the proposition. In a letter posted by actress Susan Egan, she and composer Marc Shaiman (Hairspray) call for pickets and a boycott of the theater.

It's getting ugly.
