WE ARE THE WORLD Annan leaves on a high note • Good to the last drop?: Retiring U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan had some harsh words for the United States in his farewell address, saying when the country "appears to abandon its own ideals and objectives, its friends abroad are naturally troubled and confused."
• From the "Supply Your Own Punchline" department: AP has a story headlined, "Holocaust conference begins in Iran."
• December surprise: The New York Film Critics Circle has selected United 93 as its film of the year, completely snubbing Jackass Number Two in the process.
• Cheesy pun alert: In an AP report on the state of Wisconsin possibly losing its crown as America's top cheese producing state, writer Emily Fredrix inflicts this sentence upon readers: "Wisconsin, which proudly calls itself 'America's Dairyland' and embraces all things cheese as a whey of life, is not yet ready to become a second-rate cheese power." We just became lactose intolerant.
