The timing of Wednesday's blaze at the White House Executive Office Building could not have been more deliciously timed for Dick Cheney-hating conspiracy theorists. The blaze dovetailed both with intensifying scrutiny of the White House's role in destroying CIA interrogation videos as well as a new court ruling requiring the release of visitor logs for the White House and vice president's residence to the public. In both cases, Cheney looms large—he is reported to have been an advocate for destroying the interrogation videos, and took the liberty of ordering the destruction of the visitor logs for his residence over a year ago.
That Cheney's offices were the ones hit by the fire further tantalizes lefties with the specter of uncovering some sinister deeds. As Christy Hardin Smith with lefty blog Firedoglake put it, "I'm getting the distinct gut feeling that another shoe is out there waiting to be dropped."
