  • Stunning news from Washington this morning: the GOP's game plan for winning the 2008 election cycle is "to portray Democrats as weak on national security." This of course has been the Republican raison d'etre since 9/11, though it was somehow officially "launched" as a strategy once again this week with a nationwide campaign by Republican apparatchiks. The message has netted diminishing returns—totally worked in 2002, kinda worked in 2004, didn't work in 2006—but Democrats are nonetheless incensed by Republican attacks on their ability to protect America. "If we're afraid to stand up to that then we don't deserve to be here," said Rep.
